Theme: The Time is Now

our community commitment

Since 1993, we have awarded more than 320+ scholarships to Chapel Hill and Orange County high school and college students who have demonstrated a commitment to community involvement and improvement through their civic, educational and religious activities.

The scholarships are awarded without regard to race, religion or creed and place special emphasis on financial need.

We hope you will join with us and support our funding efforts to help build a greater sense of community while helping deserving young people embrace the opportunity of getting a college education.

MLK Annual Celebration

This year’s event will feature a keynote speech by the honorable Beverly Scarlett, former district court judge for the 15B Judicial District, serving Orange and Chatham counties of North Carolina. She was appointed to the court by former Governor Mike Easley on January 19, 2007. Scarlett was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. She retired in April of 2021.

Throughout our virtual program, you will hear musical selections from local musicians from the Triangle region.

View the presentation of this year’s Bridge Builder Award, MLK Jr. Citizenship Award, and the presentation of the MLK Jr./ Edith Wiggins Scholarships.

The generous donations from our sponsors make this event occur successfully and allow us to offer scholarships to deserving youth.  Special thanks to last year’s Justice sponsor, Carol Woods, for their continued support of the MLK Jr. Memorial Celebration.
